    I have just installed WP and on making a post tried the spellchecker only to get this error:

    Error response:
    <b>Warning</b>: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to ssl://www.google.com:443 (Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" – did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP?) in <b>E:\domains\h\hadleightemple.org.uk\user\htdocs\Blog\wp-includes\js\tinymce\plugins\spellchecker\classes\GoogleSpell.php</b> on line <b>86</b>
    Could not open SSL connection to google.{“id”:null,”result”:[],”error”:null}

    Yes it was in HTML code, not output! I guess there is some sort of configuration I need to make but don’t know what.

    Grateful for help! TIA

    -try deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to narrow down and possibly fix the problem. If the problem goes away, activate them individually to find the culprit.

    Thanks t-p but this is a new installation and no plug-ins are activated. 🙁

    Esmi – thank you.

    The situation – in case it’s of use to anyone else – is that CURL and OpenSSL need to be activated in PHP on the hosting server. In my case I had to switch from a Windows base to Linux. I don’t know why these items were activated in Linux and not Windows. Ho humm… but it works now 🙂
