I recently moved my WordPress 2.3.1 installation to a new server. Since then various characters in posts, pages and comments have become corrupted.
For example, Nürburgring has become Nürburgring and £25.00 has become £25.00.
If I create a new post and add one of these characters it displays without a problem.
But with over 1,500 posts and many more comments it would take days to manually replace them all. Might there be a quicker fix?

Thanks for the idea - I deleted the lines from wp-config but it doesn't appear to have worked (I'm not using Fantastico by the way).
Any other suggestions?

Some further thoughts on this problem here but I've still not fixed it for myself:
