WP RSS Multi Importer
[closed] Special Characters Not Showing in Feed (16 posts)

The RSS feed is working wonderfully. However, whenever there are special characters like quotes, these do not come across correctly in the feed. They display as &quot. Otherwise, this is a perfect plugin for what I need.

if you know how to edit the plugin files, go into the excerpt_functions.php file (assuming you are using the feed to post) and go to line 247..you'll see some other lines below this which are commented out...try uncommenting one of these and see if this helps.

the problem is with the non-ascii characters and the type of encoding of the rss feed.....one of these other ways to decode the feed may solve this.

Thanks for the quick response. I am actually using the regular short code in a widget. I opened the file and went to line 247, I don't see any lines commented out close to this section of the code. I did however notice the function_cleanHTML and str_replace section for other special characters. I tried to add $content=str_replace(""", """, $content); which completely broke the plugin and my ability to access the server (had to restore from a backup). Sorry if I'm missing it..

Also, for what it's worth...this only appears to be an issue in the Title of each post. The content of the post contains single and double quotes with no issues. My RSS feed is https://www.facebook.com/feeds/page.php?id=159906044174627&format=rss20

ok....if you give me the rss feed url, I could probably solve the problem, but won't be able to that for a week as I'm traveling right now..just post the feed here and look for an answer in about one week.

Here's another example of a feed URL with special characters (/):
    http://www.maxwell.syr.edu/rss.ashx?cat2=\News\Research-0

After entering and saving the URL thgrough the plugin, the slashes in the later part of the string get stripped out:
    http://www.maxwell.syr.edu/rss.ashx?cat2=NewsResearch-0

Thank you and please let me know if I can be of any assistance in further troubleshooting this!

This is all happening because the original feed has ascii code in the title...the plugin can't show something different than what is in the feed itself.

As for the backslashes, try doing this instead (change the slash to %5C)

    http://www.maxwell.syr.edu/rss.ashx?cat2=%5CNews%5CResearch-0

Are you saying a Facebook RSS feed cannot be displayed by the plugin without producing an error? There is no workaround?

if you're using the shortcode, you can try using this file to see if this solves your problem

Thank you, unfortunately the Facebook feed is still showing coding instead of punctuation. Other Facebook feeds I've tried show this same problem (as did the other user above using a Facebook feed).

I wish we had an alternative to Facebook, they are problematic and proprietary, but our contributors are there and wish to bring in their feeds.

    Thanks
