I just downloaded Spam Free WP on my site because I was getting 50-100 bogus comments per day. I am not sure if it works yet; I noticed the instructions suggest to deactivate any other blocker. I have the free version of Akismet as a plugin, but I do not think it is active because I never purchased the API - please tell me if i need to do anything else.

If there is a password field on your comment form, then the plugin is installed correctly.

Akismet intercepts comments, and marks them as spam, that might be legitimate comments, causing false positives that Spam Free WordPress would not.

Akismet is free. The paid accounts are optional for a businesses handling large volumes of comments. Spam Free WordPress handles the same thing for free.

I normally handle support at http://www.toddlahman.com/spam-free-wordpress/, which is why I didn't see your message until today.
