Spam even with comments turned off (5 posts)

I've been getting a lot of spam comment attempts the past couple of days (I have Spaminator setup though, so they don't get through). In the last few hours, it's goten to the point where I get one every 5 minutes, so I temporarily turned comments off. But I'm STILL getting notices of spam attempts.

Can anyone explain why this might be and how to fix it? Also, is there danger of the server being oversaturated by so much activity or should I not worry about it?

    Thanks!

Remove or rename and wp-comment* files.

Oh - it's because they are hitting the scripts directly, and no, it does not impact on server load.

just remove or rename your wp-comments-post.php file. if you do anything to any other wp-comments file, you may mess with the display of the comments on your blog.

    Thanks! I guess I won't worry then.
