    Hello –

Maybe I’m just mis-understanding the purpose or function of Akismet, but I’m getting a TON of bogus email registrations to my website and, consequently a TON of bogus prayer requests. I thought Akismet was supposed to be able to trap and prevent this nonsense. Am I missing something? I cannot seem to find any settings that allow me to ratchet up the level of screening, and any time I try to report a bogus registration I receive an error message from Akismet. So… Any thoughts? Should I be using an additional plugin or something that allows me to approve all new subscribers BEFORE they are let loose on our site?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

“Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not and lets you review the spam it catches under your blog’s “Comments” admin screen.”

You may want to look into some additional form of authentication (intended to prove the new registrant is at least human, and not a bot) for new registrations. Some examples of what you might be looking for:

I’m sure there are plugins that could help with that, as well.
