[resolved] spam and member question (3 posts)

OK, before I start adding a bunch of plugins I want to make sure I understand why spam is still getting through.

In the WP control panel I checked the boxes that required posters to be registered members and only registered members can post.

I know all 30 of my members. I still get spam.

Why do the control panel checkboxes not work? (I assume they are working, jsut not in the way I think they should work).

It's not a huge deal now, but I expect traffic to increase soon and moderating comments can take a lot of time.

    Thanks.

go ahead and get the plugins! I think those checkboxes work fine if someone is posting a comment from your blog.

However... you don't actually have to be on the comments page to post (HTTP POST) a comment. Spammers post 'em directly to the "receiving" page from their own software, bypassing your comments rules. That's where stuff like Akismet and Spam Karma come in very handy.

Thanks. I will download those and try 'em out.
