[resolved] Sorting documents by category/tag or other taxonomy ? (14 posts)

    Hi,

Do you think it could be possible to use your plugin with the 'Media Categories' plugin (http://wordpress.org/plugins/media-categories-2/) in order to only show documents which are part of a given category ?

With the coupling of these two plugins, we could build a simple files manager. (And this is what I'm looking for :D)

    Best regards,

    Pyo

    Hi Pyo,

This seems like a useful feature to add. Let me dig into the idea some this weekend and I'll give a definitive answer on whether it is feasible.

    Hi,

I would also like to get the feature. Or may be any easy way to have multiple galleries in same post/page.

    No problem, Pyro!

I've done the necessary digging and have decided to include this in the next release. I'm hoping to get this out within the next few weeks, but it depends on how busy I am at work and other responsibilities.

Thanks for making this great suggestion!

PS: If this plugin is helpful, please take a minute to give it a 5-star rating. Thanks!

    Pyo,

It took longer than expected (ended up bundling the change with a complete plugin rewrite), but category/taxonomy support is available in version 1.4.

Please let me know if you run into any issues or anything you feel could be improved.

    Nice, thank you !

Once I have time, I'll integrate it to my website and, if any problem, I'll come back ;-)

I installed this plugin today, and I tried to use this filter.
It doesn't seem to be working.

I have this in the page
    [dg orderby=menu_order order=ASC descriptions=true attachment_pg=false localpost=false images=true category=Rosters]
And I expect to see the pdf files that are attached to the post that is given both the category "Rosters" and the tag "Rosters"

I also have a second gallery on the page without a filter that is working.

    Thanks in advance!

(P.S. Would it be possible to add functionality for GET arguments from the php url to be used for this filter?)

I would also like to see this feature working, but with the http://wordpress.org/plugins/media-tags/ plugin specifically, but in testing, it does not seem to be working, and I'm wondering whether the plugins need to be further tweaked to work together, or whether I'm doing it wrong :)

    Hi CitrusRain,

Firstly, the attachment would need to have the category of Roster in order to be returned. If you wanted attachments with that tag, you would want to include "post_tag=Roster" in addition to the attributes already in your shortcode. It sounds like you have assigned that category to the post that the PDFs are attached to, rather than the actual attachments. This won't work.

The category/tag functionality is poorly documented at this time and I apologize for that. I will be working on a much more descriptive explanation of this functionality in the coming month.

In response to using GET values, can you give me the usecase you are thinking of for this? I believe it may already be covered in pre-existing functionality.

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any followup questions/comments!

    Hi WebDragon,

That sounds like a reasonable question. I will need to look into media-tags implementation to see what they are doing and if it can be integrated into this system (I presume that it can).

I'll get back with you once I've had time to research it.

I'm new to wordpress, and I can't seem to figure out how to properly add a tag to a file. I downloaded a plugin that enabled that ability, (just now) and it didn't work. If there is a recommended one to use, I will gladly switch.

    About GET request

I have a page of documents, and I'd like to use the get attribute to use the same page to cover multiple categories.

Like one category would be stats about a particular football game, and another would be information pdf for parents.

    So something like
    [dg category=<?php echo $_GET["category"]; ?>]

    Hi CitrusRain,

In testing I used Media Categories, which works well. Once you set a media element's category, just do [dg category=<category_name>].

In answer to your GET question, with the clarification I believe it is too specific of a case to be integrated, though that is just a gut reaction. I haven't had time to fully process the request, so that may change (though I don't believe it will).

    Thanks for your input!
