... but I just downloaded and started to install WP and I have the following question (which I didn't see in the first few pages of the forums):
Can I upload the files to /root/wordpress but have /root/index.php be my blog, rather than /root/wordpress/index.php? I'd rather have the WP files in their own folder so they're not showing up in my root folder and still have my blog show up at root, but I'm not sure if that's possible. Thanks in advance.

The easiest way would be to be a redirect from your index to your wordpress index.php

u would have do some hacking. it would be somewhat buggy as you cant be sure what might have missed. and you would have to do that everytime u upgrade... :)

All right. Sounds like I'll go with the redirect, then. Sounds far better to me than any other option (other than leaving all the WP files in the root directory, possibly).

I do this with a symlink. /root/blog is where my WordPress files are isntalled. /root/index.php is symlinked to /root/blog/index.php.

I just smack out a redirect script or set one up in my control panel. There's a google-friendly one out there somewhere. If I find it I'll post it here.
