Somebody please help a girl with this question abo (6 posts)

    hello,
    can somebody please explain to me this document? i dont quite understand it. is it really necessary to follow these steps? cant i just install WP in different directories? what is the point of having a common database? thank you so much.

    Many hosts only give users 1 database.
    WP will install several times into that single database so allowing multiple installs.
    Yes, you can put a seperate install of wp into different dirs, and so long as you use a different table prefix for each install, all will be good.
    The ability to easily control multiple wp blogs from one admin interface is in the works.

    You don't have to use a common database, I have four of them myself, since I get 10 with my host. It's just an option

    common database might help in the future when WP becomes multiblog enabled! thats what matt suggested on the irc. but well... everything has workarounds...

    Ah I can see your point. I didn't know any better at the time that you could even do that with the prefixes (and I wouldn't have known how anyway! ) So I just made myself a quick little login screen with links to all of the diff logins for my diff installs.
