Some Youtube videos don't embed (5 posts)

    So I'm having a weird-ass problem.

I have auto-embed enabled on my WP installation and in some cases, if I paste a youtu.be link, it'll embed happily. In other posts it'll ONLY work with a full youtube.com/watch?v=... link. In yet OTHER posts, it refuses to work with either.

Can anyone shed any light on what is going on?

http://kyrill-poole.com/blog/music/september-music-and-design-roundup/ has both versions of the link working. The bottom one won't work with the shortened version.

http://kyrill-poole.com/blog/flowarts/mark-steyn-contact-juggling/ has the shortened version and it refuses to work.

    Hi uvavu,

Have you checked to make sure that teh URL is on its own line and not hyperlinked? This example is from the Codex:

    For example:

    Check out this cool video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTDNLUzjkpg

    That was a cool video.

I saw other posts from people who've had a similar issue and they opted to use a plugin like one of these:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/vipers-video-quicktags/

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smart-youtube/

    Hope this helps!

I always use the 'old embed style' from Youtube embed option. WP sometimes doesn't like the normal embed code.

    ChristiNi,

Yes, I have made sure the lines aren't hyperlinked. I've known about that issue for a while now.

What baffles me is that some videos work with short URLs, some work with standard URLs and some just don't work at all.

    Hello again uvavu,

I know some people have had issues with inserting code in the editor, so it could be related to that.

We also haven't ruled out some sort of theme or plugin issue. Have you tried this with plugins disabled and/or switching to the default theme?

If all else fails, one of the plugins should provide a work around.
