Some Themes Don't Work (12 posts)

    Hey. I run the site http://quickclipz.net (with wp located http://quickclipz.net/beta) and some themes don't work. The 2011 theme works, iFeature works but other themes don't. They don't load during Preview and when I activate them and go to the site, it's just blank and the title is the site address.

    Any help? Thanks!

    Not all themes are compatible with all version of WordPress. Sometimes a certain theme may require a php function that isn't enabled on the server. (for example, the absence of mbstring can do this in some themes, if memory serves me correctly) Is there a theme you can think of in particular I might look at and see if my results are the same?

    Sure - I've got a list of them, you don't have to try them all :)

    Here they are:
    Cooleer Theme by WP Corner
    Horcrux 1.0.0 by Jinsona
    NewsMojo 1.0 by FThemes.com
    Reporter 1.0.0 by Jinsona

    Thanks a ton!

    Okay. I went and found two of them at random.

    Horcrux 1.0.0 -and- NewsMojo 1.0

    Both installed and activated without any problem. Previews were present, and they applied as expected. I didn't see much point in going any further. I did notice that they were more than one directory deep when extracted, but that isn't as much of an issue as it used to be. They should be in your themes directory like this:

    /wp-themes/horcrux/themes_files - not -

    /wp-themes/horcrux/horcrux/themes_files

    Use your ftp client to check the directory/file ownerships and permissions on those themes that won't activate, and compare them to one that works normally, just to quickly rule out the possibility of some goofy permissions quirk. It's a longshot, but at least you can rule it out.

    Yep - they're located in /wp-content/themes/horcrux/themes_files

    Thanks for trying - anything else it could be?

    You might try disabling your plugins and see if anything changes. I suppose it's possible that there might be something causing a conflict.

    Can you say with any certainty that the themes you install automatically through the dashboard all seem to work, while themes that you install manually using an ftp client do not? Is there any pattern present?

    Thanks for the help. I created a whole new site, and tried the themes, and they worked so I'm just going to merge that site over to the real one. Thanks again for the help!!

    Thanks,

    @Samuel

    Ha ha!! Thanks Samuel! I think I might actually like the nickname... I wonder if MTV holds the copyright?

    @quickclipz

    From a thread we were trying to help out on that turned a little humorous (at least I thought so, but I have a pretty weird sense of humor) -
