   Is there any way I can get past this situation?
   WIth Yahoo I dont have permission to use a whole range of templates from the wordpress directory. I presume its a .htaccess situation as Yahoo doesnt allow such files to be uploaded to their servers.

   Is there any way to sidestep this?
   Will templates work without the htaccess?

   Templates and .htaccess really have nothing to do with each other.

   You neglected to mention what sort of issue/errors you're having... but perhaps this article will help? Using_Themes
