When I click on the categories links on my blog some work and open the category and others come up with a message:
Apologies, but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help and a search box.

What I don’t understand is why some links seem to work and others do not. I have looked all over for an explanation but can’t find one…..

This is the link to my blog page.

    I hope someone can help!

  • It looks like you changed your category base to ‘Daily Drivel’? Is that correct?

When I hover over a link in your sidebar, it looks like it’s showing /Daily Drivel/category (Note the space between Daily and Drivel). However generally speaking WordPress doesn’t allow spaces in permalinks. That’s probably the source of your problem. Try using an underscore _ or a dash – between Daily and Drivel.

I’m having the same (I think) issue myself. When I click on a category it says:

    Not Found

Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.

Any ideas? I have the latest WP update (3.1) and installed advanced permalinks. I wonder if that has anything to do with it!?

Hi miklb, I didn’t knowingly change anything. I don’t know why Daily Drivel is in there in front of everything. I thought it was just another category like all the others. But I am not the brightest spark in the box when it comes to all this interweb malarkey, so I will have a look at it. I can see what you mean when I hover over the links, but it doesn’t explain why some (like goals or exercise for example) work and some don’t. It seems very puzzling.

Thanks for trying to help anyway.

Okay, I looked and the “slug” for Daily Drivel is hyphenated. Is that what you meant? I can’t see how I can stop Daily Drivel appearing in front of all the other categories.

@sharon – usually a link URL would be example.com/category/foo. When I hover over a category link on your site, I see /Daily Drivel/faqs/. WordPress does not support the space, it’s simply trying to strip it out, hence a 404 on /DailyDrivel/faqs/

Under Settings->Permalinks Category Base, is there anything in that field? I assumed that’s where Daily Drivel was. If so, try, Daily-Drivel, Daily_Drivel, and let us know if that fixed your link issue.

@miklb Thanks, it worked. Although I am still very confused as to why that was in there, as I didn’t put it there and it still seems odd that some links worked and not others. But it all works now,and I don’t really need to know why, so thanks again!

Sure, no idea how that got there either, and I did open a bug report on this as that shouldn’t have been the expected behavior.

Well, thanks anyway. Sometimes things just happen…….
