• I get it that you think you have a great plugin and that most people don’t need to know what your updates do. However, given the age of this project, and the fact that many of the developers of this plugin are Core WP developers, it seems to me that you would have the discipline by now, to include an adequate changelog to inform users or potential users what exactly you have changed.

I have watched this project for quite a while, and it is disappointing to see such a lack of consideration for those who use it. It happens every time you do an update. Where do we find a decent list of what has changed. Going to your codex, and trying to compare the features from the last version to this version is a horrible way of doing things. And when you release something like 1.9.1 and the only thing in the changelog is reference to 1.9.0 Codex, that is ridiculous.

Practice what you preach to those who add their plugins to WordPress. Be an example of what you would expect from others. That would be a refreshing change.

Central Geek – We do try to create robust changelogs for every version of BuddyPress. Here they are for the last few versions:

    http://codex.buddypress.org/developer/releases/version-1-9-1/
    http://codex.buddypress.org/developer/releases/version-1-9/

We don’t list the entire changelog in readme.txt, because it would add thousands of line.

I think we sometimes forget to change the pointer in the upgrade notice that you see at Dashboard > Updates, so in the case of 1.9.1 you may have seen a link to the 1.9 Codex page. That was an error, and we apologize for it.

But I don’t think it’s fair to say that there’s “such a lack of consideration for those who use it”. Thousands of volunteer hours go into developing each major version of BuddyPress. And while our changelog practices are not perfect (we welcome suggestions for improvement), it’s not as if they are completely non-existent.

    Sorry for your frustration.

My opinion is my opinion. I rate based on what I see and the overall practices I have seen for quite a while.

I’m not frustrated at all. I don’t use your software anymore. And as a result, my blood pressure has dropped to well within the acceptable limits. lol

I do, however help others who do use your software.

    Thanks for your reply.
