   So far it doesn't seem to be working with my 2.8.1 installation...

   This plugin doesn't seem to be compatible WordPress version 2.8+. Shame :(

   Frasten's "Smilies Themer Toolbar" ( http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smilies-themer-toolbar/ ) works like a charm! Check it out or test it on my site http://neodeviants.com/2009/09/21/lucky-star-redalice-remix/ This plugin provides a toolbar to easily add custom smilies to comments.

   It integrates with Smilies Themer plugin, and therefore requires it.

   You can change your smilies theme in your blog, and the toolbar is automagically updated!

   It also integrates into tinyMCE, the rich text editor that you use when you write the posts. Check out the demo screenshot in my site http://cuteuploads.org/?v=neodeviant.png
