    Hi all,

I'm running on our website (www.westerwoldeactueel.nl) nextgen for Photo reports. Sinds a time our website is very slow.

To look where the problem is coming from I installed P3 , Here nextgen came with a large 75% of usage!

So I turned off the nextgen plug-in (for a few minutes) and the website was fast again...

So the problem is in Nextgen...
is there a fix for this? it shall be ashamed to rollback to version 1.9.xx cause we really like the way 2.0.xx look likes and works.

Hope that someone can help us fix this problem for me, and other next-gen users,

    Cheers!

    @Laurence: A few questions.

First, are you using NextGEN Pro? If so, and if you deactivate that (but leave NG), does it affect your site speed?

Second, are you resizing your images for the web - can you tell us the size and/or pixel dimensions of one of your standard images?

Third, I'd like to clarify how big the speed issues are. Some people are very attentive to speed and even a second delay on load time is a big deal. Can you perhaps try testing your home page using http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ once with NextGEN active and once with it not active and report back the difference in loading speed, along with the difference in page size (NG images, esp. if large will slow the load time just because the page is larger).

    Thanks! (Erick)

    Hi Erick,

    Thnx for the reply,

I'm using the normal version of NegtGEN

Disabled all the plugins except the NextGen stil slows down the website with almoast 10 sec
if I disable the NextGEN plugin the website loads within 3 sec.

We resize the image before uploading them to 800x533 px or 800x600 px with a size of +/- 250KB

In the server the load is extremely high if NextGEN 2.0 or higher is installed and disabled (sometimes 300% CPU usage)

For now I downgrade to version 1.9.xx because this version don't have the high load... But i will try the new 2.0.x version when there is a fix for this.

@LaurenceMeijer1987 - Thank you for replying back with that information. Speed is a big deal for us, if several users are experiencing a significant difference we want to get on top of that as quickly as we can. We've heard from some, right now we're trying to narrow down the exact cause of the slow load for those individuals like yourself - but OK load for everyone else. We're getting inconsistent results but are working towards improving performance in each upgrade.

Would you mind sharing with us the hosting provider you're on? Do you mind providing a screenshot of your throttling report? I know in some cases, shared hosting providers - the servers can be slow at times. So it would be very helpful to have speed test results over a period of time rather than one day. It helps us to narrow down the cause.

    Thanks! (Becky)

    Hi,

I have had the same experience with 2.0.x version of the plugin.

I have a Linux VPS with 4gb RAM and not much else running on the server, but when I upgrade to the latest version of ng it slows the load times noticeably of my WP multisite installs.

Downgrading to the lower version does the trick and speed the sites up again.
I have tried upgrading in the past and have had to revert to pre-2.x each time. I also notice that the wp-options tables for each site on my multisite install still contains a multitude of extra rows that I put down to one of the previous upgrades of NG.

Hope this helps to pin the issue down, keep up the great work,

    Conor

Thanks @WACKA1 . Would you & anyone else experiencing slow speeds, mind installing the most recent upgrade, v2.0.31, and work with it for a few days before reverting back to Legacy v1.9.13, do some speed tests using http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ each day and run it 3 times during each test and provide the average speed you're getting on your site w/ NextGEN active vs deactivated? Reporting back with this information would REALLY help us!:

    Day 1:
Speed test on: [your site URL]
    NextGEN Gallery v2.0.31 + [Your Active Theme]: x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB
NextGEN Gallery + WordPress Twenty Twelve Theme: x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB
[Your Active Theme] only (NGG deactivated): x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB

    Day 2:
Speed test on: [your site URL]
    NextGEN Gallery v2.0.31 + [Your Active Theme]: x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB
NextGEN Gallery + WordPress Twenty Twelve Theme: x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB
[Your Active Theme] only (NGG deactivated): x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB

    Day 3:
Speed test on: [your site URL]
    NextGEN Gallery v2.0.31 + [Your Active Theme]: x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB
NextGEN Gallery + WordPress Twenty Twelve Theme: x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB
[Your Active Theme] only (NGG deactivated): x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB

    Day 4:
Speed test on: [your site URL]
    NextGEN Gallery Legacy v1.9.13 + [Your Active Theme]: x.xs, x.xs, x.xs = Average speed: x.xs / Page Size: xxMB

    Hosting provider: __________
    Shared hosting account?:Yes/No
    WordPress up to date: Yes/No
All Plugins up to date: Yes/No
Caching plugin installed?: Yes/No (If yes, which plugin?)
How many plugins do you have installed?: _____

This information would really help. We know it's asking a lot, and may be out of your comfort zone to temporarily switch themes or have v2.0.x activated if it is slowing down your site. But in order to resolve the speed issue, we need some help in diagnosing how the plugin is behaving on your server.

    Thanks! (Becky)

    Hi Becky,

I would love to but I don't have a test env at the minute. It is something I am creating, but until then I cant risk it in production.

@WACKA1 - Understood Conor. If/when you are able to set up a test environment, and are able to provide the above information, it would help us tremendously. Thank you for being willing! :)

glad i'm not the only one...

We've got a dedicated server in the Netherlands at Versio.nl .

    here are the server specs:

    Processor Name Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz
    Vendor ID GenuineIntel
    Processor Speed (MHz) 3092.815

    Total Memory 3902528 kB
    Free Memory 3402860 kB
    Total Swap Memory 4046840 kB
    Free Swap Memory 4046840 kB
System Uptime 0 Days, 12 Hours and 40 Minutes
    Apache 2.2.23 Running
    DirectAdmin 1.42.1 Running
    Exim 4.76 Running
    MySQL 5.5.29 Running
    Named 9.8.2rc1 Running
    ProFTPd 1.3.4b Running
    dovecot 2.1.12 Running
    Php 5.3.20 Installed

I'm not able to install 2.0.13 of nextgen.
This because the website is almost not accessible. and the server is going to crash. then we can not login with SSH to fix the problem and the hosting company (Versio) needs to do a hard reboot.

The load is everyday high.. (above the 70%) with in the morning and evening up to 350% or even higher!

Now, with the old version of NextGEN :-( the load is good.. it is beneath the 2.5% of CPU usage.

    Hi,
same on my Installation too. Since this evening the load time increased heavily...
So let’s come to some facts:
I used the build in Network-analyzing Feature of Firefox 24.0 and with NextGEN 2.0.31 disabled I have a load time for my website of a round 2.5 to 3.3 seconds.
If I enabled the NextGEN gallery the time increases to 7.0 to 7.75 seconds.
Hope this infos can help to solve the problem.

    Greetings (Jehuel)

NextGEN gallery & NG Dload Gallery
    s l o w load here as well
Happy to have found this blog before I start futzing with image sizes
This entire site was created around the NextGen Download Gallery feature::: scanned vintage negatives developed by my father-in-law-- Sadly (understatement).. my husband died last year and this web presence was created for his siblings. The fam is low tech, and the load time deters them from clicking around. Granted, I went all out with graphics, but max size per JPG= 1MB. I'm a good candidate for purchasing Pro for a client, and am very encouraged that photocrati appears earnest to help without all that finger-pointing at other possible culprits (plugins and WP templates). Speaking of fingers... mine are crossed.

    Hi,

I have updated to the latest version and everything seems OK (fingers crossed).
Not sure if it was the upgrade or the removal of some tmp files that were persisted from previous upgrades, but all is looking well.

    Thanks,

    Conor

N.b. can I use the pro version on multisite? And does it remove the adverts when upgraded?

    Hi,

I just tried to update the NG gallery to the newest version 2.0.33

Still same isue, After the installation the CPU load is going high on the MySQLd process. (Long loading time of the website)

So, did again a rollback to version 1.9.xx and the server is running normal again..

Is there stil no sollution for this problem?

    Cheers!

    Laurence

I have the same problem. I have Pro version of NG gallery ? How can I roll back to 1.9 my pro version?

I have the same problem. The Nextgen 2.0.40 takes up to 95% of the speed scan by P3. My site is loading at 15 seconds even when I am using the fastest office LAN internet.

I had to revert back to a previous version to resolve the long load time issue (pre-2.0 build). My site was averaging over 20 secs to load and frequently worse. Although I enjoyed the new features, I couldn't deal with the load time. Does anyone know if the latest build has resolved the long load time issue?

@jsbruin I don't think it has been solved, my site has been slow for the past few weeks to where I can barely access it. I am on shared hosting though and that doesn't help with performance for the type of site I run. One of my sites is running Nextgen version 1.9.13 and that site has been running fine (same shared hosting). Thinking of trying the plugin Image Store (which has a gallery only mode as well).

Thx, Steven. I suppose I'll have to stick with the old build until a fix is released... or until I find a way to migrate my ngg associated images to another gallery plugin cleanly.

If anyone has found a way to resolve this issue (I have hundreds of posts and thousands of images so something might be choking), please share. Thx!

The new version solved the problem for me. Server had normal load again

Also i did a check what is loaded, every request loads 15- to 20MB.. The next-gen slider widget was the bad-guy. So, I disabled this and now one load takes 800 KB. this also creates less server load.
