Slow to load 1st Byte, Slow WordPress. Whats wrong with it? (10 posts)

    Hi,

My site http://events-management.biz/ has a slow to load problem.

The problem is that once you click on the url above or any page in the site you get 6 seconds of pause before the 1st byte is loaded.

Why is this 6 second pause happening? It's the same in Safari, Chrome and Firefox and on different computers and connections.

If you create a test page it loads instantly - then, after a few hours it too starts taking 6 seconds to load the 1st byte

    You can see this at:-

I am trying to track down if this is a server problem, database, wordpress or wordpress theme issue.

I've noticed that my control panel on my domain is fast and normal. This makes me think that the problem is with WordPress or the database or the theme, not the server.

My server support desk tells me they have no issues and, after looking at this issue they think it's wordpress related.

Link below is a pdf of a speed test where you can see the 6 seconds of pause before the rest of the page loads.

Also this is a youtube vid of the problem.

Any idea why this might be happening.

    I am a bit of a novice.

    Thanks

    Ben

I disabled my 3 plugins yesterday morning.

I still have the same problems with the slow to load the 1st byte.

    Thanks for the help anyway.

    Yours,

    Ben

    Have you tried:

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Changed the theme as per your suggestion and no difference.

resetting the plugin folder is too complicated for me.

I have found a possible clue / prob.

I have just noticed that my error log in my wordpress installation, which I can see in my control panel file manager, is at 200mb.

A few days ago I went over my storage allowance and in looking though my files on the server I noticed that the error log was massive. I deleted the contents. This error log of 200mb has been generated in less than 24 hours.

Humm. My prob is I don't know what I am doing. Could this be the prob. It def is a prob as it keeps taking me over my storage limit.

Yes I have but it means nothing to me.

Have a look at this post about it.

I'm having exactly the same problem - the 6-7 second pause before the page loads. have you found a solution or a root cause of the problem?

    Cheers,
    Matt

Also me. My site takes about 3 minutes to load.

Has anyone found a solution yet?

This aticle changed my life with this problem, which all came down to using /%postname%/ in the permalinks which is apparently a really bad idea (thanks WordPress!).
