    Hi there,

    Thank you in advance for reading this and helping everyone in this great forum!!

    My website is wearflatstodinner.com .. and I've tried to speed it up with numerous different tricks, deleting extra plugins, I use Flickr.com to load my pictures.. cache etc.. My problem is even my dashboard is slow and I've accessed it over the course of a couple of weeks from multiple different computers on different internet networks..

    Can you please suggest something? I've looked into getting some sort of outside help but can't find anything that helps a blog of my scale (ie very very small!)

    Thanks,
    Vanessa

    Where is your site hosted?

    You might also try deactivating plugins one by one to see if that changes anything.

    Also try another theme.

    This kind of tool may be helpful too: http://gtmetrix.com/reports/wearflatstodinner.com/cKkCoP4d

  3. Reduce the size and number of your images, among other things.
    See http://gtmetrix.com/reports/wearflatstodinner.com/kLoSGJGB

    Also, Dreamhost is a shared host and as a result can be slow.

    Your server's running pretty fast, not a lot of load on it right now. I would also consider turning off wp-http-compression and instead using Google PageSpeed and putting this in your .htaccess:

    # Gzip
    <ifmodule mod_deflate.c>
    AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/text text/html text/plain text/xml text/css application/x-javascript application/javascript text/javascript
    </ifmodule>

    That will compress your site faster than doing it via PHP :)

    wow, such a great response, THANK you all!!

    A quick question about images, I was thinking that hosting them on Flickr would make it faster, is that not a good idea?

    Also, Ipstenu-DH: how do I turn off wp=http-compression and us the code that you gave me?? Don't quite understand that.

    Thanks again everyone,

    Vanessa

    wp-http-compression is a plugin, so just deactivate it.

    Then you would want to edit your .htaccess file and put the code I gave you up top.

    And definitely you don't want to use Flickr to host your images. Having them on your own domain is going to be faster, and generally better for everyone :)

    Ipstenu-DH -- okay great, thank you.

    I've deleted the wp-http-compression plugin, but can you please tell me where I can access my .htaccess file step by step? Still unfamiliar with that...

    Thanks again,
    Vanessa

    We have a wiki page: http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Htaccess

    But I went ahead and added it to your .htaccess for you, since I know that's a really weird file.

    (BTW, I totally want a grilled cheese with spicy guacamole sandwich now!)

    Sorry to hijack the thread. Not sure how to post a new thread. I am new to wordpress. My problem is the same as vanessacallaway. My home page loads SUPER slow "www.marianelaradio.com". I don't know why and my users are complaining it takes forever to load. Thank you all for your help.
