My page is loading slowly. Then when I am able to get to my dashboard and click on Updates (of which there are 6), it “whirls” forever then gives me an “Internal Server Error.” Is there a phone number I can use to actually talk to a human? I am not tech savvy so I need someone to walk me through any changes I need to make.

  • WordPress is free software and this free, volunteer-staffed forum is the only support resource available via wordpress.org. If that is not suitable for your needs, you may want to consider hiring someone instead.

    Have you tried:
    – switching to the default theme automatically by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thank you, esmi. I haven’t done anything, but the page is now loading better. However, when I hit updates, it still gives me an “Internal Server Error” message after a long wait. And of course I don’t understand any of what you said to fix. I have no idea where to find the plug-ins folder or what “files &amp: folders” or “wp-config.php & root .htasccess files” means. My page is <minorroadtrip.com>. I forgot to include that in the last message. But thank you for your instructions.

Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

To troubleshoot the “Internal server error”, please follow the esmi’s instruction in her reply.

Suddenly everything is now working fine. Maybe it was a ghost in the machine. Anyway, thanks for the help.
