Slideshow doesn't always load

Previously, we have used NextGen for the photo gallery feature. It has worked well and we found that the user interface was easier for our clients to manage than the plugin we were using.
However, we recently discovered that, when using the slideshow shortcode, you will often get the spinning wheel and no more.
