slides not advancing when tab is not focused

I’m having a fairly minor issue which may be jquery-related, rather than plugin, but not sure.

When a user opens a page with a gallery, then browses (wherever) in another tab, the gallery doesn’t advance during that time, so that when you return to the gallery tab, the gallery goes crazy advancing as quickly as possible to make up the missed time.

Is there anything that can be done about that?
