   I'm using "XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress 3.0.3" to generate sitemaps. It appears to work fine, The robots.txt gets modified and the sitemap.xml appears well formed. However, google webmaster tools produce an "Unsupported file format" error. It doesn't give me enough information to figure out the problem.

   The header of my sitemap.xml looks like this:

   <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
   <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="http://www.atlanta-rpc.org/wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/sitemap.xsl"?>
   <!-- generator="wordpress/2.3.3" -->
   <!-- sitemap-generator-url="http://www.arnebrachhold.de" sitemap-generator-version="3.0.3" -->
   <!-- generated-on="February 21, 2008 2:14 pm" -->
   <!-- Debug: Total comment count: 0 -->
   <urlset xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
   xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9 http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9/sitemap.xsd"
   xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">

   I'm wondering if the xmlns:xsi and xsi attributes are a problem. Any ideas?

   I figured it out. The MIME type must be application/xml rather than text/xml.
