That’s not the problem. The problem is auto generation of site map when a post is published and the site map is not being updated.
Manual generation, and there is no problem
This has changed with 0.4 as the file no longer needs to be generated as the plugin no longer uses static files for XML sitemaps.

Okay, so how does one check that it is updating the sitemap for google et al?
Is it through …/uploads/wpseo/sitemap.xml?
And if yes, does one have to change the site map to this location in google webmasters? Or is something redirecting google here?
google isn’t being redirected, you’d have to remove the old one yourself if you added that directory manually. The new sitemap index file is at example.com/sitemap_index.xml and google will be notified of that file automatically.

Yes, this is the location of the site map, no issue there.
http://www.thelongestwayhome.com/blog/sitemap.xml
Always has been. Google reads it no problem.
The issue I am having is that the site map is not being (auto) updated when a new post is published (scheduled).
If I manually update the post, it appears on the site map.
Two WP-SEO updates previously, everything was working fine.
Something changed?
If I look at the settings for the Sitemap plugin, it shows that the Sitemap has been rebuilt daily, however if I look at the actual sitemap.xml file, it’s date and content are the same as when I last manually rebuilt it.
Looks like the daily rebuild and the update when a new post is published are not working, even though the plugin thinks that they are.
