• Hi

I recently am getting the following messages on the majority of my sites:
    Sitemap is HTML
Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.

I haven’t added anything to these sites like plugins or made any changes actually since the problem started. Any ideas what could have caused it? Also all my post categories have disappeared, not sure if it’s related.

There was server maintenance done but hosts insists all is good on their side.

    WordPress 3.5.1.
    WordPress SEO Version 1.3.4.4

  • I have the same problem on new websites

I also have the same problem. If you have the newest version of W3 total cache than “Page Cache” is the problem, i dont know how to setup the page cache so that it will not cache the XML pages. Hopefully there is someone who knows what to edit in the Page Cache settings to bypass the XML sitemaps.

I am also facing the same problem, please answer if anybody can

I thought I would mention I am having the exact same problem with my sitemap either unrecognized or throwing a html warning. Either way, webmaster tools does not like the sitemap coming from Yoast’s SEO plugin. I have not had problems in the past.
