Site with restaurants and Reviews

Hello

I am running a site where i list restaurants and also post articles with reviews about restaurants. The site is currently a .net site but i am considering rewriting it and publishing it as a wordpress site.

I am pretty new to wordpress but i do have a pretty good knowledge of programming. I want to be able to add new restaurants with geolocations, categorize, tag them. But also write articles about restaurants and also tag/categorize these articles.

There will be about 5000-6000 restaurants adding/removing about 20 each month. Also we will be writing 2-3 new articles/reviews each week.

Would this be possible with wordpress?
Will wordpress be able to handle that many posts performance wise(assuming restaurant is some kind of custom type)?

Since i want my visitors to be able to search for restaurant based on category, free text, tag or location

Im just guessing but an article will be a post but a restaurant will also be a post but with additional columns with info?

I am not asking anyone to come up with a complete solution but just point me in the right direction.
