site running very slow

Hi guys, first time here, I just bought a site of flippa. It is; http://www.techclap.com and it is running very slow. It has a lot of plugins could that be the problem.

Does anyone know of any software to check weather plugins are clashing or detect other problems to do with site speed?.

Also the site is on shared hosting with hostgator and the site has 600 posts and a sub domain with another 500 posts. With that amount of content should it be on its own hosting plan?
