I read through several forum posts about WordPress Sites running slow. I am trying out a template because I'm trying to build a new web site for our Church. The site just feels sluggish even after I turned off the plugins.
What gives?

Just tried the site now. The initial connection was a bit slow but once I had a connection, the site loaded very quickly. Again, as I moved between pages, there was an initial pause followed by a very fast page load. My guess - based on what I experienced - is that it's a server/network issue and nothing to do with the site itself.
OK, thanks. But try this site. This is the main site. I am using a separate folder to build this WordPress Site. It is much faster.
Yes - it is but it isn't using PHP or MySql (from what I could see). If the MySql server is sluggish, it could account for the slower initial connection when running WordPress.
