Site loading slowly and erratically (6 posts)

    Hey guys,

New to the forum. I have a website for my small business up and running (somewhat). I'm using the Zap theme. Up until last week, everything seemed to be running fine, but now loading takes a really long time, and sometimes it doesn't load at all. I've actual ly had clients call me and tell me they are unable to use the site at all. I know the pictures I have up aren't optimized for the web - that's something I was planning on doing later. It seemed like everything was running fine until I "fixed" an issue that Yoast SEO brought to my attention (don't remember what it was, it just said something to the effect of "X is affecting SEO performance, click to fix it") So I clicked fix, and then a day or so later the site began loading slowly. I don't know if that affected anything, but that's the only out-of-the ordinary thing I've done thus far.

EDIT: I've called my hosting company (iPage) to see if they throttled my bandwidth or something like that, they said everything's running fine. They installed W3 Total Cache and said that should help. My web designer says I should upgrade my host, because iPage is cheap and crappy? They seem to rank fairly high.

This isn't my arena, just trying to get my website performing adequately for my business. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I have not. I'll give it a shot right now.

If it does turn out to be a theme problem, you will need to seek further support from the theme's developer/vendor. We do not support commercial products here.

Deactivating all plugins didn't seem to do anything.

Changed the theme to "toolbox" (couldn't find any default themes). Loaded it up in incognito mode on Chrome (seemed the appropriate thing to do) and it loaded right up. Am I to understand this probably means it's a theme issue?

It does sound like a theme issue, yes.
