• Hey there,

I’m developing a new site for the company I work for. Everything is going very smoothly, unfortunately the site keeps randomly giving me the white screen of death. I have found a work around however. I’m using a twentyten child theme. If I FTP into the folders and add a “1” to the end of the child theme folder’s name, the site comes up without any CSS. I then can access the wordpress backend, from that point I can remove the “1” from the folder name, however there is still no CSS at all. After I do all this, if I go into “Edit Themes” and click “Update File” the site is restored CSS and all.

This is happening every 10min – hour, and while I can work around it while I’m developing, it is not acceptable when the site is completed and up.

Also, because the site is being developed internally at my company, the DNS only resolved internally and I cannot share the site with you.

Please share me any ideas you have as to why it is doing this, as I’m at a point while I’m stumped as to why the site, randomly, sometimes even overnight when nobody touches it, while whitescreen.

  • Start by re-uploading a fresh, unpacked, copy of the Twenty Eleven and Twenty Ten themes to wp-content/themes using FTP.

Okay, I just did this. It white screened immediately afterwards, and I brought the site back up using the same methods as before.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand it just whitescreened again.

    [ Please don’t bump, that’s not permitted here. ]

    Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

Does this happen with any other theme? Have you tried using any other regular theme besides the “twenty series”. If this happens with any other theme then the issue is not theme related.

The white screen of death just happened to me twice this week. I FTP’d into the site content/plugins and renamed it… screen back to normal

I remember recently updating Super Cache plug in so I renamed that plug in to _hold on the end… Screen back to normal.

Thinking that may be it was a memory issue, I normal-led Super Cache and stopped a few other plugins, freeing up some memory but White screen came back.

Left the Super Cach plug in disabled for now… I’m not saying that’s causing the issue, its just remedy for now… Just sharing..
