Site is blank except for header, don't know why (13 posts)

I went to visit my site today and for some reason it's not working. I haven't done anything to it except for a regular post yesterday. It worked last night just fine.

For some reason, this afternoon, I went to visit my site and the page is blank save for my RSS feed icon and my header color. To me this happened out of the blue. (http://www.loadedkitchen.com)

I'm incredibly stupid when it comes to anything technical regarding my website but I haven't done anything out of the ordinary recently. The last plugin I installed was about 1 month ago and I haven't had to update any within the past week or so. I have no idea why this has happened.

I am able to access my dashboard just fine and my host says that my site is up and working fine. Any insight? Thanks so much!

PS-I appreciate any help anybody is willing to give. Please bear in mind that while I'm pretty savvy, you made need to hold my hand. A special place in my heart is reserved for anybody that is willing to do so.

    Try:
    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme's folder inside wp-content/themes and adding "-old" to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    - re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of WordPress.

It is going to have open tags due to scripting error. esmi is on the right track.

@kmessinger: Check the source markup on the home page. something's generating a fatal error in header.php by the looks of it. Maybe a social plugin?

Thanks so much for the responses--however--all of that is greek to me. Actually, worse than Greek. :)

What exactly is an "open tag?" Was this something I did?

Apologies for the gibberish but this is what I found in my control panels error logs:

That looks like a theme issue. Switching to Twenty Eleven as I suggested above should get the site running again.

Thanks--I switched it over and it appears you're right--it's something broken in the theme. So what do I do with my custom theme? Do I have my designer go through and fix whatever is broken?

Yup. Error belong to a PHP trying to parse XML. Is it possible the site for some reason or another loads the site map in the header? If so then looks like either you have special chars in the sitemap (Extremely not likely). or the sitemap file is missing throwing the fatal erro and stopping WordPress press from render the rest of the page..

Something stupid. Changing the theme should work but would that fix the current theme issue?

hmm...well, it appears as though the twenty eleven appears on my site but the navigation is all messed up and my posts aren't appearing properly. Ugh. I have no idea what I'm doing here.

Ok, so I have no idea if I'm even on to something or not, but I looked at my error log and where it's apparently telling me that I've got an error.

So, I went to that php. whatever and found that line 214 references my RSS feed and that's apparently where the error is. Coincidentally, that's the only icon that's showing up on my site right now.

Do you think that's what's taking my whole site down? Do I just delete it?

    Maggie -

When coding ever set of code has to have another code to tell it to end.

For Example - If I want to bold my name using HTML I would have to type Jonathan If I leave out the then the site assumes everything on the page needs be be bold and acts as such. HTML is a simple language so for the most part your browser can interpret to close the bold at the end of the text.

PHP works in the same way that it needs a command to close it. However because php is noticeably more complex the browser does not know how to interpret an unclosed statement.

Your designer or developer needs to fix this. It is their coding error and they should fix it without a fee. If you want to fix this on your own google how to close a PHP command and go from their. You won't fix it the first try, but keep working and it will work for you :)

Well, I deleted the RSS feed out of my theme's editor header.php and it works. So, thanks for your help. I'll head back to my designer because feedburner crashed my site.
