Site Hacked, Want to Rebuild, How to Migrate Posts? (5 posts)

I am redesigning a site for a friend, and I just noticed a message on one of the pages saying that the site has been hacked and the index file has been modified. I didn't build the original site, but I took a look at the index files and didn't see anything strange. As far as I know, he does not have any site backups. So, since I am redesigning the site anyway, I thought it would be best to just start over with a fresh WP install and new theme.

The problem is, my friend has published a bunch of posts with podcasts (using the PowerPress plugin) that he does not want to lose. Does anyone know how I can migrate these over to the new installation? If I import the old databases, will that copy over the podcasts too?

[Edit: Also, I have no idea when the site was hacked. Will it be an issue if I import the current database into a new WP install? Or am I just totally screwed here?]

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks, esmi. I've looked at some of those links, and I've decided to rebuild with a new WP installation. My question has less to do with how to clean up a hacked site (since I will be starting fresh) and more to do with how to migrate posts from a hacked site to a new site. Is that possible? Can I save the old posts/podcasts?

You should not migrate anything from a hacked site until you have completely de-loused the old site. Otherwise, you may end up importing hacker back doors or worse.

Okay, thank you. I'm really just a designer, so this is a little overwhelming for me. I will try to figure out how to de-louse the site using the links you recommended. Thanks for your help.
