I copied and moved the index.php from /wordpress to the root folder. Also copied htaccess to the root. Then i changed the General Settings of both WP url and Site url from http://www.mysite/wordpress to http://www.mysite/. Changing the WP url was a big mistake. I am in the process of downloading the all WP files and the database is backedup regularly. Where can i make a change to restore the site? Thanks

You need to just one Home url and leave the other as is as your wordpress files and folders are wordpress folder.
and did you make chnage in index.php file in root on line 17 so there wordpress folder in url.

You will need to reset urls
