site goes to home page when I try to save settings (10 posts)

I have their weird problems which is driving me mad. Sometimes (not always) when I try to save a setting the site will take me to the home page - without saving the thing I was wanting to save.

It does this quite a lot with comments (I have had to put a special notice as it was stopping people making comments). It seems to be OK with saving posts, but some settings I am having difficulty with. For example getting to individual users pages to edit them.

I have just downloaded a new plugin RSS Multi Importer and it is not letting me save ANY settings at all.

Its driving me mad - does anyone have any idea what this could be? I have tried switching off the plugins but nothing seems to work.

The website is http://www.landlordlawblog.co.uk. It is running the most recent version of wp and headway theme v2. All my plugins are up to date.

From what you describe, it seems your site allows to do only the bare minimum tasks. The rest are rather restricted, it seems. You may need to contact your web-host.

I don't see how that could be. I rent a server from my ISP and host other blogs there where this does not happen. Its not hosted with a cheap hosting company.

The blog has been online since 2006 and on this host for about a year. This problem has only started happening in the past few months. It was all right before.

    Please review:

I suggested to contact your host just because you may need to go through all troubleshooting steps beginning with deactivating plugins, reverting to the default theme, reinstalling WordPress, etc. If all these do not help, you may still need to contact your host.

I am not sure why, when all my other blogs on my server work fine. Why should it be any different for this one? What could they do about it?

Does anyone know WHY I would be re-directed to the home page in these circumstances. Has anyone come across anything like this before?

Are you using any cron plugins/ scripts? If so please deactivate/ delete it and see if it solves the issue. If not, please deactivate plugins and see if it helps. Use FTP/ c-panel if you cannot do it through dashboard.

I think I have found the offending plugin. It is WordPress Firewall 2. When I de-activate it I am able to do things which before were defaulting to the home page.

I am a bit concerned about this though as the WordPress Firewall 2 was installed by my web designer to protect the blog. Do you know another one which may have a less destructive effect?

Actually I was also wondering about cron (although as a non programmer I am not really familiar with how it works). However I don't think I have any cron plugins.

    Is your site OK now?

Look for the plugins that you can use for security here:

I'm going to leave the wordpress firewall plugin in situ until I find another solution but at least I now know what the problem is.

Thanks for your help - it got me to finish checking all the plugins! It never occurred to me that it could be the firewall one. Apparently it does affect cron in some way so you were right there.
