• Hi

I have a WP blog that is getting massive as it contains and will continue to have masses of images in it. My question is, can I remove a month at a time very old archived posts and their content, or is there a way of slimming down the site as the one sure thing about it is that it is only going to get bigger over time – I suppose I am wanting some kind of control over the bloating of the site and a method to keep it within a certain size.

Any suggestion would be more than welcome, and many thanks in advance.

  • Have you considered using something like Flickr to host your images?

    Thanks for replying.

What kind of Cron are you thinking of?

I have a dedicated server with a finite amount of space and I want to try and keep the size of the blog manageable, so adding more space would put me in the same position further down the line. I am surprised that there is not something built into the WP admin that allows me to reduce the size of the blog by removing the oldest post say for instance. I would have imagined older blogs by now would be getting a little overweight.

Text for blog posts and pages don’t take up much server and database space; images do. You need a CDN or another hosting for your images. It’s a very typical thing to do. WordPress core doesn’t offer it as CDNs and caches are user and performance preferences. Checkout CDN and cache plugins: http://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=cdn
