Site Getting Hacked? (3 posts)

I am getting many new user registrations that I know are not legitimate. They are all coming in with what looks like a bogus hotmail email address, something like euwantqp936@hotmail.com and user names like chelseao3j. They look like they're being generated by a script. I'm getting about 5-10 registrations like this per day.

Is this something I should be concerned about? If so, are there steps I can take to stop this activity?

If you do not actually need or want users to register accounts, you can go to Dashboard > Settings > General and uncheck "Anyone can register". Doing that should stop what you have mentioned while still leaving it possible for people to sign up for notices or whatever. If you do want people to register accounts, there are plugins such as Theme My Login that will hold them inactive while awaiting admin approval.

  3. It;s not a hack, but you should turn off registration if you're not using it :)
