remove the index.html from the root directory of your site.

    you blog is at http://www.yourdomain.com/index.php

the index.php wont load automagically until you remove that index.html

    o.k.

feeling pretty much like an idiot at this point. using the ftp tool from godaddy's site it appears i am in the html directory....can't seem to get back to any more of a root than that. in the html directory i see

    php-uploads - dir
    wordpress - dir

then a bunch of files including missing.html and welcome.html but no index.html

Before you read below, try to point your browser at yourdomain.com/wordpress/ and see is anything shows up.

If you have a wordpress directory, then then the files are not at the root.

What you could do is, take the wordpress index.php file out, and upload it at the root (outside the folder)

Follow these instructions on how to do it.

got it! had to go through the steps you outlined. also had to create a .htacccess file.

    my conclusion:

may be not be a good idea to have godaddy do the wordpress install. may be best to do the 5 minute wordpress "manual" install.

thanks to budha trance and whoami for helping this wp newbie along.
