Site Diappeared! (9 posts)

I have been running a number of WP sites for some years, including http://www.brasch-group.com. The other day I noticed that this site was no longer accessible - all you get is a completely blank screen, but no error message or anything. The site had been running on version 2.6.5, and I thought it was time to upgrade. Unfortunately even with all the 2.9.2 files uploaded to the server, I still get the same blank screen. Any help would be appreciated!

    1. Re-upload WP 2.6.5

    2. FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) and rename your current theme's folder in wp-content/theme.

    3. Reset the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin

    4. Confirm that the site is up & running.

    5. Upgrade manually to 2.7

    6. Upgrade to 2.9.2 using the 1-click upgrade.

Many thanks for your quick response! Unfortunately despite following your advice, the site is still not working.

    1. Re-upload WP 2.6.5

    DONE!

    2. FTP into your site (or use whatever file management application your host provides) and rename your current theme's folder in wp-content/theme.

    DONE!

    3. Reset the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin

    DONE!

    4. Confirm that the site is up & running.

    Still not working!

I had no plugins installed. The only content of the wp-content/plugin folder were Akismet and hello.php

I have also emailed my hosting provider (1&1) to see if they can help.

    Any other suggestions?

I just realized I didn't express myself clearly in my initial posting. The problem did not occur due to an WP upgrade. When the site suddenly stopped working, it was running 2.6.5., and I had not performed any work on it for several weeks.

Only after the site stopped working, I upgraded WP to 2.9.2 in an attempt to fix the problem. Unfortunately that did not help.

Also, 1&1 has responded that "there is no reported issue with the server under this account". The further point out that the other sites, which I am running under the same hosting account are working flawlessly.

    Getting kinda desperate here :(

Uninstall your plugin, and test your site. If fix, install plugin with the lastest update

I am not using any plugins - none, zero, zip, zilch, nada. No plugins whatsoever. Not a single one!

Yes - I did understand that but I don't think it's a good idea to use 2.9.2 scripts on a 2.6.5 site (assuming we can get it working again).

Have you checked your database? Does it look OK? If you don't have a recent backup, I'd suggest making one now.

Can you check that you have a copy of the default theme in wp-content/themes? In fact, upload the default theme from your recent 2.6.5 download - just in case.

I backed up the whole site as well as the database after the problem occurred, but before I upgraded to 2.9.2. From that backup I put the site back on the server via ftp.

I have another backup of the site (from before the problem), but unfortunately that does not include the database.

I don't know how to check the database. My experience with SQL databases is limited to making backups of my WP sites. I have never needed to restore one from backup until now.

The http://www.brasch-group.com website uses the default (Kubrick) theme.

Not sure how to proceed, but grateful for further suggestions!

I just had the same symptoms with a WP 2.0 site. What happened was that my hosting company apparently upgraded PHP and caused a latent bug in WP to suddenly start causing problems.

I documented it here - maybe it will help:
