I installed wordpress at 10am this morning..all went simple. I downloaded a bunch of templates and added them..went thru and tried different ones until deciding on one that I liked. I took a look after changing a couple things...and when I returned about 10min later..it was gone!...all but the words..I try to log into the admin and get a 404. How can it be fine one minute and not the next?

Looks like you put bad entries into the URI fields at Options -> General
Your blog is there at http://oldfadedmemories.com/wordpressII/ , but it can't find style sheets because of my first sentence.

That's always the keyword, my friend!
The "couple of things..."What do you have in admin > Options > General for the two URI values? Obviously WP is looking for the stylesheet in the wrong place!

Posted 5 years ago #all sounds good, but all was working fine. I had been changing templates and the such...then it just stopped responding...my other blog is fine.

Posted 5 years ago #that is not a very nice way to help someone out...and yes I can do it myself and I will definately let others know about how you treat people. Not everyone knows as much as you do, and to treat them like they should know is not very nice.
the so called advice you gave me means nothing to me as thats not how I have downloaded wordpress..you dont even know whats going on with my situation and have no decency to even try to find out...... -

@kassi59 - I visited your blog before my first response.
http://oldfadedmemories.com/wordpressII/I viewed source and noticed that your blog was looking for CSS in the wrong place. Which, probably 95% of the time, is indicative of a wrong URL entered at Options -> General or some really wild redirect stuff.
Next, I hit http://oldfadedmemories.com/wordpressII/wp-admin It redirected me to http://oldfadedmemories.com/wp-admin Again, indicative of a bad url in Options -> General
I then dropped a link to a tutorial on how to fix that.

As moshu and I were apparently way off base, it would be good to share your knowledge on how you fixed it. The next person with the same symptoms could then find this thread and learn.

Posted 5 years ago #No HS, I do believe you were correct as the last thing I did before leaving was to change the wordpress address URL and thats when I crashed it...lol....typical for me...do first freak out after...sorry for that...
I just use a control panel that does all the work for me and I dont have to go thru the inside workings...much simpler than your suggestions, which were in fact correct..but since Id just downloaded wordpress via fantastico for me it was much easier to just delete it and re install it...I didnt have to worry about losing any information as I didnt have any...
sorry for my crankyness...I get way highstrung with terminology as Im the type that knows how to do it I just cant say the proper terms.
