[resolved] Site added - No sites found (15 posts)

    When I added site 13, I got the response "Site added - No sites found". The message portion of the Sites page indicated "Site added", and the site list portion of the page showed "No sites found" where my twelve sites had been listed moments before.

    From my testing to date, this only occurs when I have my complete profile set up in the template used for the added site. I have tested individual elements, and not one of them is sufficient to cause the failure. I'm not aware of any resource issue which could cause this - I got the same behavior on a smaller, slower server with much less memory (I've got my PHP memory limit set to 2700M).

    I've got tech support at my hosting provider (HostGator) working on this but I would desperately like another set of eyes looking at this problem.

    Thanks,
    James

    P.S. Some additional info...

    My 12 child sites still exist, they just don't show up on the Sites page.
    My 13th site was not created successfully - it's there, but it shows "Error establishing a database connection".
    Looking at the Dashboard for my root site, the post count is now 0 instead of 33.
    I looked at the WordPress error log, there's nothing there from this failure.
    The blog template for the failure comprises 1 theme, 3 plugins and 9 tables.

    That's all the extra info that I can come up with.

    James

  3. Are the sites in the database?

    As the sites still exist, they must be in the database in some way - but they aren't accessible from the Sites page. I don't know if this helps, but tables

    wp_site - 1 rows
    wp_site_meta - 33 rows

  5. My 13th site was not created successfully - it's there, but it shows "Error establishing a database connection".

    lok in the database for wp_13_posts. If that's not there then no, the site was NOT created successfully.

    The blog template for the failure

    Which plugin are you using to create new blogs?

    lok in the database for wp_13_posts. If that's not there then no, the site was NOT created successfully.

    wp_13_posts is in the database; and the "Error establishing a database connection case" instance came when I used a fake email address for the site 13 administrator. When I used my real email site 13 was created successfully.

    Which plugin are you using to create new blogs?

    The blog template plugin is "New Blog Templates". Here's the URL to the plugin's website:
    http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/new-blog-template

  7. Oooo the fake email not creating a blog is a new development.....

    Turn off the templates plugin. Try again.

    I turned the templates plugin off and here's what I got using my email for the blog 13 admin:

    - blog 13 shown as created and all 13 blogs listed on the Sites page
    - correct post count for root blog
    - incorrect URL for "visit" link of blog 13 on Sites page
    - should be "http://a.loseweight.com.co"
    - is "http://loseweight.com.co/wp-admin/ms-sites.php?updated=true&action=add-blog"
    - blog 13 shows "Error establishing a database connection"

    Now after a couple of navigation cycles I get no sites found.

    Uhhhh....

    here's something that I should have come up with from the start but it just didn't occur to me until now - oops..

    I had patched capabilities.php in order to tolerate a plugin. That plugin has since been upgraded and does not need the toleration patch, so I tried a test cycle with that patch commented out. The patch is one line of code at the beginning of the module:

    <?php
    require_once('pluggable.php'); /* the patch */
    /**
    * WordPress Roles and Capabilities.

    The results of this test cycle were initially promising (all blogs listed, blog 13 generated correctly) but I found that at blog 13 there were no blogs listed on the Sites page. Eventually, the complete failure occurred on the root blog with no sites found on the Sites page and posts count of 0.

    Hi Andrea,

    Have you had time to think about this mystery since yesterday?

  12. Well, no - because from the start of this thread to the end, there's been three separate issues, including core hacks. And I tend to take weekends off. ;)

    Delete blog 13. make a new one. go from there.

    Andrea,

    Thanks for responding - and thanks for visiting my thread on your weekend off.

    I started from scratch with the core hack backed out and added blog 13 with the full template with mixed results. The blog was created successfully - both front and back end look good. However, the blog listing on the Sites page was intermittent - "no sites found" on one pass, all 14 blogs (counting the root blog) displayed the next time.

    Next, I attempted to create blog 14, again with the full template. This resulted in

    Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in /home/loseit/public_html/wp-includes/user.php on line 705

    or an apparent memory limit failure at 256M. The thing that doesn't make any sense is that I've got my PHP memory limit set to 2700M.

    I've got no clue whether this 256M limit problem has anything to do with my "no sites found" problem, but it really doesn't help.

  14. Turn off all your plugins - including the template plugin.

    Just make a plain new site from the super admin -> sites menu & see what happens.

    Starting with the version with the core hack backed out and with all plugins turned off, I made plain vanilla sites - blogs 13 and 14. Everything seems to be working correctly and to be stable.
