Single theme shared for all blogs on MU Site (6 posts)

    Background: I am using MU because of a few needs, but one is to work around what seems to be a WP e-Commerce limitation for handling multiple currencies. (despite trying many settings and many combinations, it always charges in the default currency and I need to be able to sell in 3 currencies, 3 different GSTs)

    So, I am using a main site and Blogs 2 and 3 mainly to install a second and thrid instance of WP e-Commerce to sell in that particular currency.

    Q1. What I would like to do is to be able to duplicate the look and feel of the 2nd and 3rd blog so that is fairly transparent to the user. Are there 'global' options to point the themes to the same place?

    Q2. A secondary issue: I am currently using Suffusion theme and it also has an export/import function, but I cannot find the directory structure under blogs.dir to allow me to import.

    Q3. Is there a way of hiding the ....com/wordpress/... in the look of the URL?

    Site is http://realnlptraining.com/

    Q1. Go to dashboard of each blog and choose the same theme in Appearance > Themes. Or easier still, http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-new-blog-defaults/ including setting what theme you want used when new blog is created.

    Q2. Sorry, the theme has export/import function to do what? WP has native Tools > Export and Tools > Import function for posts, pages, comments, etc.

    Q3. For WP 3.0.1 multisite, install WP in root. If it were single WP and you gave WP its own directory, can do, but that will not work in WP multisite, as far as I know.

  3. Q3 is impossible, mercime is correct.

    @Mercime,

    Sorry, the theme has export/import function to do what? WP has native Tools > Export and Tools > Import function for posts, pages, comments, etc.

    WP's native tools help you migrate the content of your blog, not your theme settings. Suffusion has more than 400 options, which would be extremely time-consuming to replicate accurately across blogs without assistance. The export/import capability of the theme takes care of moving your options from one instance to another.

    @Nlpmesoon,
    You need to save the exported PHP file in the wp-content/themes/suffusion/admin/import directory. Then run the "Import" for each blog under your MS installation using Suffusion.

    @sayontan - thanks for the info, didn't know that as I create my own custom themes for sites. Import/export function of theme options is a cool feature, will be checking out your theme to learn :-)

    Hi mercime, sayontan and ipstenu,

    Thank you all for your input.

    Q1. I have tried the wpmu-new-blog-defaults and this works fine - Thanks.

    Q2. Thanks Sayontan for this. I had tried it once and it didn't work, so when I rechecked where I had put the exported PHP and it was the same path, so I tried it again on a new blog and it worked, almost all features came accross. One part of the skinning didn't so I will investigate that. I was expecting to see something under blogs.dir, but obviously not. It is still a mystery under 3.0.1 MU where these are stored for each site - do they become tables and the PHP is only an interim step to make import/export work? This is a great feature BTW. Well done.

    Q3. Ok, that's life.
