Single post Not using template of Category | WordPress.org

Hi,
I have WordPress installed in a site of mine. I’ve defined a category-3.php template for the category “real estate”, as its id=3. And I have a post with it as a single category “real estate” .. so the post should be shown with the template of real estate, right? but its not doing that. Any clue?

According to Template Hierarchy a single post view will use single.php.

Alternatives:
* http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-post-template/
* http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/single-post-template/

Ok. I knew that already.
So, is there any way to make the single-post to fetch the template of the parent category?
I know its illogical as a single post can contain more than one category. But there should be a way.

Haven’t tried it but look at http://txfx.net/wordpress-plugins/force-category-template/

How about I make several custom single themes then make each one call the template for a specific category and then just assign them to posts with the custom post template plugin?

It’ll need to call the parent category template first though.
