Silence is golden

I only noticed this index.php file after getting hit with a virus.
There is nothing more in it, other than :

// Silence is golden.
?>

After reading different sources, I am confused as to whether this is part of the virus, or whether it is from wordpress, a plugin or something else.

Can anyone clear this up for me?
