Hi all, just started my new blog site at http://blog.worldofcord.com and installed the Sidebar Widgets plugin…

I had to make a functions.php file for my theme as well as the couple little changes like explained in the author’s great installation documentaion, and I finally have the widgets appearing in my “Presentation” section…problem now is…I can’t drag the available widgets up to the sidebar…the little boxes just don’t drag πŸ™

Is there an easy fix for this? Anyone else come across it?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

Make sure that you installed the correct version of the sidebar widgets plugin for your blog (which is running WordPress 2.1.3).

Note that the older version included some javascript files. Those files are *not needed* by 2.1 and up, and putting them on as the instructions say could break your blog. Delete them if you did add them, and put the normal WordPress files back into /wp-includes/js.

Thanks for that – I went to your posted link in case I didn’t have the latest rev of Sidebar Widgets. I didn’t touch any javascript files, so wasn’t that.
Still won’t let me drag the widgets up to the sidebar…

    Driving me crazy :p

I’ve got the same prob. New to WordPress, installed 2.1.3 yesterday, added Sidebar Widget 1.2.1 today, finally twigged what to do with the Themes files and at last got it working – but the Sidebar Arrangement page loads with two errors in IE7:

    Line: 314
    Char: 4
    Error: ‘Draggables’ is undefined
    Code: 0
    URL: … /blog/wp-admin/themes.php?page=widgets/widgets.php

    and

    Line: 447
    Char: 2
    Error: ‘Sortable’ is undefined
    Code: 0
    URL: … /blog/wp-admin/themes.php?page=widgets/widgets.php

    Any ideas?

    My errors are very similar.

Just in case it helps, I also get the same non-dragging problem in Netscape 8.0 and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.4.

The display in Firefox is slightly different from the other two: in IE7 and Netscape 8 the light yellow ‘Default Sidebar’ dialog box is to the right of the empty ‘Sidebar 1’ box, whereas in Firefox the dialog box is nested neatly inside it. Still can’t drag anything though.)

The lack of dragability means that the necessary javascript files are not loading. These files are located in /wp-includes/js/scriptaculous. Figure out why your browser is not loading them, and you’ll solve your issue.

The scriptaculous files are included as part of WordPress 2.1 and up.

Very strange – my 2.1.3 zip didn’t have the scriptaculous directory :p
I will re-download and check and if there, upload them.

    Thanks Otto42!!

Ok pulled down WP 2.1.3 again and added the “crop” and “scriptaculous” directories and their contents into the /wp-includes/js directory.

Still won’t drag, but I’m going to reboot here to see if IE7 needs to have a new session running to make the javascripts work.

My God. OK. Thanks, Otto42 – it works at last! Earlier, I got rather confused about the “scriptaculous” directory. I’d installed the 2.0 version of Sidebar Widget in an effort to get it working and it came with a “scriptaculous” directory of its own. I guess it overwrote some (or all) of the more recent WordPress files. I then later deleted the whole “scriptaculous” directory when I uninstalled Sidebar Widget, not realising it was part of the original WordPress installation. Unpacking and re-uploading the WordPress “scriptaculous” directory and then reinstalling Sidebar Widget seems to have done the trick.

Still getting an error message in IE7, though – different from last time:

    Line: 298
    Char: 5
Error: ‘Draggables.drags[…]element.id’ is null or not an object
    Code: 0
    URL: …/blog/wp-admin/themes.php?page=widgets/widgets.php

    Does this matter?

Well after seeing Bob got it working, I tried re-uploading the Sidebar Widgets as well and still can’t drag πŸ™

Cordanim – maybe I can help you sort it out? You’ll find my e-mail address here http://www.bobkingsley.co.uk/blog/?page_id=2 (couldn’t find an e-mail address on your blog) – drop me a line if you like and we’ll try to tackle it together. I’m pretty new to this stuff but am happy to help if I can πŸ™‚

I have that exact same prob in Firefox, but work around it by changing my sidebar in IE.
