I have the same problem. I also have the free version. If you can display the sidebar in the paid version, it wold be worth it for me, but I can’t find that information anywhere.

Sidebars are not supported in WPtouch or WPtouch Pro at this time. However, WPtouch Pro users have successfully added support for sidebar widgets in the footer area of their WPtouch Pro theme. This is made possible by WPtouch Pro’s child theme feature, which at this time is not found in WPtouch 1.9.x. You’re welcome.
