After recent update to 1.9.7 next gen started to act silly.
I Cannot load effects other than shuter, but then another image loads beneath it - same as with NO EFFECT setting. You can see it here: http://geographica.pl/2012/10/21/w-destylarni-rumu-tapping-the-admiral/
It looks like next gen does not switch off the default effect (so it loads picture without effect and with effect...).
Also when I switch to Shutter it displays the photo. When I copy the same text (class="shutterset_%GALLERY_NAME%") into CUSTOM effect I have no effect.
