Showing only the current custom menu title (navigation label) (3 posts)

i have looked all over the place and apparently i'm the only one wanting to do this.

i have a responsive theme that only has a button for the menu navigation. i want to display the current page's title from the custom navigation menu (not the page's actual title because they get too long to fit). in other words, i want to display the Navigation Label instead of the page's actual title.

for example...the homepage has an actual title of "Some really long page title". but i only want it to display as "Home", which is what i set the Navigation Label in the custom menu to read.

can anyone help with this, 'cause i'm at my wits end.

    thanks.

    What theme are you using?

    the theme is Pinboard

but i've fairly heavily modified it, so i'm not sure that'll help much.

it looks like they've used javascript to create the responsive menu, so the coding inside that doesn't look like the standard php code inside WordPress. at least i can't see where it is anyway.

i know what i'm needing has to just be <?php echo "something('something')"; ?>. i just can't seem to find it anywhere.
