showing a post from the subdirectory on the root page

basically what i would like to do is to have post that come from a subdirectory have a preview in my header on my root page . (excuse me if my terminology is not correct ) here is an example complex mag’s front page shows the content that is placed on other pages on the home page i want to be able to post to my art and design page and have it show up some where on the main page . like the slider . please let me know if you can help me at all i really need an answer
