Showcase Template for Different Categories possible?

    I have many different categories with sub-cats.

    I would like to for example have the front page hvae only the BLOG cats for the show case.

    If the person then clicks on say Lectures Page (showcase template), it is also show case but only for Lectures Cat and the sub-cats..

    Is this possible? If so, can somebody give me an idea.

    I tried copying the showcase.PHP template to my child and calling it Lectures Show Case, and modifying it so it only fetches the lectures cats BUT the layout of the page goes all wonky.

    If I load a page that is NOT a child showcase.php it works fine.
