TablePress
Shouldn't tables be part of WP core (2 posts)

I'm a bit concerned about fully implementing TablePress in my blog. It seems to me that tables should be part of the WordPress core. I'm afraid that I place all this time into building lots and lots of tables and then all of a sudden support for TablePress disappears. Yes I understand there is a nice Export option available to us but, I am not wanting to export several hundred tables should I have to transition to something else.

Tobias, could you please address my concerns here? Are there plans for Tables to be part of core?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

thanks for your rating, I really appreciate it!

    About your concerns:
The decision, whether tables should be part of core, is not in my hands, as I'm just a plugin developer, but from my experience, I assume that the core developers deem tables to be "plugin territory". So, it's likely not going to happen.

However, don't be afraid or worried! There are no plans at all to abandon or discontinue TablePress or its support! And even if that were the case, I'm very confident that it will continue to work just fine in future version of WordPress, as I'm striving to only use core functions that will remain compatible in the future.
Additionally, the table formats (JSON internally, HTML on the "outside", CSV for the export) are open formats, so that there's no way that you are going to lose data, even if TablePress were to go away.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
